Folk Dance, Songs & Performing Arts of Bihar
Domkach is an indigenous dance form of Bihar. It is performed exclusively by the women folk. On the occasion of a wedding, the friends and relatives along with the groom proceed in a procession towards the bride’s house. The women stay behind in the groom’s house. They celebrate the occasion with this special kind of dance.
Traditionally, Domkach is played in Mithila region. Domkach means “playing other’s role” by the men of dominant caste. Now this form of dance is rarely seen. It is a kind of farce performed specially on the occasion of marriage ceremony abusing the bride side in amusement.
